Wireless Heats Up
This month we debut the Aeroprise Index of Wireless Activity, a progress meter that will take the pulse of enterprise wireless activity in the months and years ahead. You know you need to mobilize your applications. Wouldn't it be great if you knew what everyone else is doing as they're doing it? We have our ears as close to the ground as ever and we think you'll benefit by having access to the most in-depth coverage of meta-issues affecting the wireless industry. Stay tuned to this space and increase your wireless IQ - one month at a time.
The Index of Wireless Activity tracks interest in the type of projects you're planning in a variety of ways. It is calculated by weighting:
- wireless-related articles published monthly in five leading IT publications,
- the stock prices of five leading publicly-traded wireless companies,
- wireless-related merger and acquisition activity,
- wireless-related initial public offerings, and
- wireless software headlines on popular news search engines.
The index begins this month at 100. We anticipate it will increase quickly and stabilize over time as the industry hurtles along its current explosive growth trajectory and then becomes so much a part of enterprise life that continued growth ceases to be notable. The Index will tell its own story but each successive chapter should make one thing clear: wireless is here and after a long winter slumber, wireless is now.

Tip of the Month: Who's On?
In today's increasingly complex IT environment, collaboration is more important than ever. Problems aren't resolved in a vacuum and the need for reduced resolution time and improved customer service is greater now than ever. Wouldn't it be ideal if your technicians could leverage each other's collective knowledge to resolve critical issues quicker and increase first-contact resolution rates?
Here's a tool that may help you out:
From your Aeroprise Main Menu click "Who's On?" You'll see a list of everyone on your team who is currently available. Click on any name and you'll place a voice call to that team member's mobile number. Hang up and you're back in Aeroprise where you started with the ability to close the ticket, search for more information, or anything else you could do from your desktop. How's that for real-time collaboration?
Trivia Question: How Much Will You Save?
Question: What is the average payback period for Aeroprise customers?
(a) 4 months (b) 6 months (c) 8 months (d) 10 months (e) 1 year
source: primary research
[answer in next month's newsletter]
Last month's question: What is the mobile phone penetration rate in the US?
(a) 20-30% (b) 30-40% (c) 40-50% (d) 50-60% (e) 60-70%
Last month's answer: (d) 50-60%. Mobile phone ownership among Americans age 12 and over has hit 59%, or over 140 million Americans. That's significant but it pales in comparison to Scandinavia where the penetration rate is over 100%!
