Dude, Where's My Carrier?
In 2000, Ashton Kutcher didn't know that his B movie would describe the state of the US wireless industry in 2005. But to the nearly 14.5 million customers of Nextel and 22 million customers of AT&T Wireless it does. Dude, who do I pay now? Dude, did my SLA change? Dude, will my rates increase? Dude, who's going to sponsor NASCAR? We may not have all the answers but we do have an update on the wireless market that we think you'll find useful.
In 2005, five (soon to be four) carriers dominate the US wireless market (see figure 1 below). According to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), total U.S. spending on wireless communications will grow by 9.3 percent in 2005 to a total of $158.6 billion. By 2008, that number

will reach $212.5 billion, a cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 percent per year. The single largest contributor to that growth will be wireless data services for large enterprises. All of this means your company has more buying power than ever. Don't do anything brash but understand how market forces impact you, ask questions, and make sure your wireless carrier delivers on its promises.
Aeroprise Index Of Wireless Activity
IOWA ended March down 2.16% at 167.4 on light wireless-related headlines despite this month's CTIA show in New Orleans. The slowdown is partly cyclical and it is partly attributable to weakness in the Dow Jones and NASDAQ indices. But don't mistake IOWA's slide for declining interest in wireless services. Spending continues to increase as the major carriers expand efforts to repurpose voice resources around devices with PDA functionality and data applications.

Tip of the Month: No More Interruptions
Your pager beeped and buzzed constantly. Wouldn't it be great if there was software smart enough to know when you're around and whether or not it's ok to interrupt you? There is. Build schedule-based rules and alerts in Aeroprise.
Here's how: from the Administration Console or Personalization Console select 'Ticket Rules' or 'Actionable Alerts' - the former for pull-based information, the latter for push-based. Add 'datetime' fields to your rule or alert that specify what you want when you want it. For example, "send me everything in my queue from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday but only send me urgent tickets after hours."
