The Marconi Awards
While we road warriors have been leveraging mobile technology to improve productivity and reduce support costs it's important to remember that others use it for, well, other purposes. To keep your mobile perspective balanced, we're sharing five new devices in our inaugural Marconi Awards, named to honor Nobel prize winning Italian Physicist Guglielmo Marconi.

Marconi transmitted the first wireless signal one and a half miles across Salisbury Plain, England in 1896. We are borrowing Mr. Marconi's name but it must be noted that he would roll in his grave if he knew his experiment gave birth to these "innovations".

Index of Wireless Activity
IOWA begins 2006 on an up note after two consecutive downers. The index closed the month at 191.76, up a scant 0.66% on strong stock prices (up 9%) and weak headline activity (down 18%) despite the deluge of press releases generated by this month's over-hyped, underwhelming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Look for IOWA to be fueled by activity surrounding the consumerization of broadband mobile data, the launch of high-profile new enterprise-targeted PDAs, and more big telco deals.

Tip of the Month: Resolve Merging Conflicts
When you're out of coverage and you update a record that someone else updated while you were offline, you create a merging conflict when your change is pushed to the application server. You may want to override the other change or you may want to accept it. Use your conflicts report to do either one.

Here's how:

From your Main Menu, click 'Resolve Conflicts'. You'll see a list of all your conflicts and their statuses. The error message from your server will be displayed along with a message from Aeroprise and information about the other user and their change. For instance, "Conflict detected: Bill Gates changed the status of your trouble ticket from 'bug' to 'feature'." Select what you want to do: "Accept" or "Ignore". Refresh your queue to confirm that your conflicts have been resolved.
